For more than forty years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago has collaborated with donors, community partners and volunteers to empower at-risk youth to reach their potential by nurturing their dreams and providing high-quality, one-to-one mentoring that enables lifelong success.
Our signature one-to-one mentoring model—pairing adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”)—along with our site-based and community-based programs are integral in building meaningful relationships based on trust and encouragement. In fact, we have made more than 20,000 one-to-one mentoring matches since our founding in 1967, resulting in an estimated 3 million hours of contact between Bigs and Littles.
Every day, we work tirelessly to help inspire children to achieve great things. But without vital donations from folks who share our vision, we couldn’t continue to offer, much less expand, our critical mentoring services.
When you contribute to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, you’re investing in the success of these deserving young people. Please join our cause and help us broaden our reach while directly supporting the dreams of children in your own community.

“I LOVE MY LISTS. Creating and organizing them relaxes me. Funny, eh? My family, however, gives me grief. Be spontaneous, mom! Live on the edge! Now I chronicle the day’s events, keep track of schedules and the goings-on of two wily adolescents. And when my calendar buzzes, I’m thrilled at the prospect of WHITTLING DOWN THE LIST RATHER THAN ADDING TO IT.”

“THEY CALL ME A ONE-WOMAN DYNAMO. Single-handedly, I juggle schedules, create agendas and manage expectations. On that rare occasion when I have a moment to breathe, I download my favorite comedy show to amuse myself when I’m on stand-by. And when my daughter’s ring tone chimes, I ANSWER TO WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT.”

JUST THIS MORNING, I captured Isabel’s first steps before she went boom. Over coffee, I shared them with the entire extended family. Then began the oh-so-delicious task of organizing recipes for the women’s guild cookbook. Afterwards, I uploaded them all to the volunteer website—including a fantastic one for Baked Alaska. And finally, I successfully corralled two teenagers determined to avoid my texts. THE AFTERNOON SHOULD BE INTERESTING.”
